MATCH #5 - HOSTILES v CASANOVAS

#5 was a pivotal fixture with the Casanovas in a position to lock away top spot in the GPL#1 with a round to go. They just had the Hostiles to overcome.

Batting first, the Lovers were off to an aggressive start, aided by some loose Hostile bowling. Roy, Dyson and Patel dominating proceedings at the top of the order whilst Collier and Ingram continued the momentum to post a formidable 142 for 6 in their 15 overs. Only Brar (3 for 6) and Sorenson (1 for 4) provided some control with the ball although Wildcard, Gary Singh, provided plenty of enthusiasm at the bowling crease and executed a spectacular runout.

The Hostiles batting reply lived up to their name early on as they amassed 32 for 0 of the first 2 overs and the usually buoyant Casanovas were quite quiet... Stewart (26 off 10 balls) lead the early hostilities. Menda (18) continued the early onslaught but regular wickets hampering any real threat to the chase. Singh (13*), capped off a handy all-round performance, and Devasia (18) provided some hope at the back end of the innings, but they came up 15 runs short. Collier the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 12.

Casanovas       142 for 6 (15 overs)

Ingram                30* (19)
Patel                   24 (17)
Collier                 23 (13)

Menda                18 (12)
Devasia              18 (14)

Collier                 3 for 12 off 2 overs
Roy                     2 for 10 off 2

Casanovas win by 15 runs

MATCH #6 - HOSTILES v WRANGLERS

It was a treat to have a few of our younger players step up for Match#6 with special Wildcards Jonah Funnell and Samuel James from Hamilton Boys making their debut for the Hostiles.

The Wranglers batted first and set the early pace with 12 an over. Ravi and Ben Coleman dominated the early exchanges before Ravi fell to the quality off spin of Hostiles import, Funnell. Ben Astwood continued the momentum and a late wicket to Byron van de Maat saw the young Rebel in Paul Michael chip in to boost the total to 129 for 2 after 14 overs. A run rate of 9.3/over which was manageable if the Hostiles started well.

Sam James and Liam Adams opened up and set about a furious run rate with weather pending. Paul Michael snared the valuable wicket of Liam when he was about to cut loose but unfortunately the weather came in and the game had to be called off. The calculators had to come out and with the Hostiles at 54 for 1 after 5 overs, they took the honours by 22 runs using this link.

Wranglers                      129 for 2 (14 overs)
Ben Astwood                   46* (22)
