GPL#1 IS HERE! Match 2 Recap

9 Feb

It was a scorching hot evening at Smallbone Park where the Craigs Investment Partners Hostiles made their long-awaited debut in the GPL against the winless Chance Cars Casanovas. Dyson showed his intent early as he swung his blade around in all directions to give the Lovers a frantic start. It was the surprise package in Vandermaat that made the first break through as he messed up Dyson stumps. Anchal Rana joined Riley Kusabs and they consolidated processing but were kept in check by the accuracy of Abigail Sims and Ebin Devasia. Abigail was particularly unlucky not to pick up a wicket or 2. Adams and Vandermaat struck again to have the Casanovas in some trouble before Cam Ingram and Alex Roy showed some controlled aggression to post a competitive 129 for 3 in their 16 overs.

Dane Sorenson opening up the Hostiles response with Vandermaat and showed he still has plenty of runs left in him. Hogan removed Vandermaat early and Sorenson held out to an incredible out field catch by Kusabs to have the Hostiles in some trouble. Cohen Stewart and Goldendeep Brar looked to steady the reply, but a misunderstanding had the Hostiles skipper run out for 21 just he was looking to up the ante. Top scorer, Cohen, started to find his range and was targeting the Smallbone steps before his sister, Sadie Stewart came on to really trouble both Cohen and Magan. The runs dried up and things were getting desperate. Cohen lost his poles to Alex Roy in the following over and all was lost, or so it seemed. Liam Adams showed his hitting power with a quick fire 24 off 15 balls to give the Hostiles some hope but it was just too hard a mountain climb. The Casanovas prevailed by 9 runs and it was their discipline by keeping wickets in hand and minimising extras which saw them home.  Sadie’s spell was telling which halted the momentum and secure her the player of the Team for the Casanovas whilst Liam Adams all round game earnt him the honour with the Hostiles.

Next week the Hostiles will play the Wranglers and it a must win for the Hostile management as they now prop up the bottom of the table.
