Prem match reportvs Cadets 11/11/2023

The prems day got off to a great start when the skipper Alex Roy won the toss and elected to bat.

Our openers got off to a reasonable start before Sean Gapes feathered one through to the keeper to be out for 23.A couple of quick wickets fell before Alex Roy was joined by Gordy O’Donoghue who was returning from a lengthy injury break. The pair settled well and looked great together regularly turning over strike while putting the bad ball away. They put on 72 runs before Alex was given out LBW. This bought the youngster Riley Kusabs to the crease.

Riley carried on supporting Gordy and the pair put on 47 with Riley chipping in a handy 20 before being undone by Isaac White who bowled superbly all day taking 5 wickets.

The star of the show however was undoubtedly Gordy who top scored with 63 and got the lads through to a competitive score of 200 from 55 overs.

It felt like we were possibly 20-30 runs short of where we should’ve been, and when Cadets had got through to 73-2 things felt like they were swinging the home teams way. However with two very dangerous batsmen in Marcel Collett and Andrew Mascall back in the hutch it was time for our boys to tighten the screws as they’ve shown they’re able to do quite well.
Ben Dyson took a bit of momentum back with 3 quick wickets, however against such a long batting line-up there was still plenty to be done.

After looking a touch expensive earlier in his spell Ben Astwood settled and put plenty of pressure on the middle order before taking 5 of the Cadets wickets, ultimately finalising the win for our lads.
All in all it was a great game, that really could’ve gone either way. It was played in great spirits, and the hospitality from the Cadets lads was top class.
