Week In Review: 9/10/23

9 Oct

Round 1

Geyer 103 for 9 (20 overs)

Goldendeep Brar             27 (25)

Greerton 104 for 4 (11 overs)

Ravi Yarwood-Paintal      2 for 26 off 3 overs

Lost by 6 wickets

Geyser kicked off the BOP Premier T20 competition with a fixture v Greerton. The opening partnership between Scott McKnight and Vinay Pathania of 31 was solid but the innings never really got out of first gear with regular wickets throughout. Goldendeep Brar (27) showed his class in the middle order but with Vinay, Scott, Cohen, Ravi and Magan all getting into double figures, it was a disappointing 103 to defend.

New UK import, Ravi YP, picked up an early wicket but that was about as good as it got for our Rotorua lads. Wickets to Cohen and captain, Alexander Roy,  stemmed the flow but Greerton ultimately coasted to the target.

There was a couple of key moments… Alex, our dutch import, got a first ball duck whilst Ravi’s (UK) first ball he bowled in NZ was hit for 6! It can only get better.

Round 2

Geyser 130 for 7 (20 overs)

Goldendeep Brar             32 (32)

Alex Roy                              27 (22)

Cohen Stewart                  26 (16)

Papamoa – DNB

Batting first again, we came up against a disciplined Papamoa bowling unit that gave very little away with extras and loose deliveries. Cohen and Goldendeep combined for a 47-run partnership for the 3rd wicket after being 20 for 2 and in early trouble. Cohen was particularly aggressive but tried once too often to find the boundary and held out on the rope. Alex continued with intent whilst Ravi (13) and Ben (12*) dragged us up at the end to a defendable 130 in our 20 overs.

Then the rains came and that was it for the day. Points were shared.

Now we look forward to a tough week of training under the watchful eye of captain Alex Roy, with fixtures against Tauranga Boys and Cadets to look forward to this weekend.
